I was asked to illustrate last Sunday’s book review feature for The Boston Globe. It was an intense and complicated story with a few poignant moments from which I was able to put together images. None more powerful than when main character Nargis sews, with golden thread, the tattered pages of the book, “That They Might Know Each Other,’’ a 987-page liberal opus on the cross-fertilization of civilizations and religions throughout history, which had been torn apart by the Pakistani military.
I’m so happy they chose this illustration in which I photographed actual golden thread and collaged it into my final drawing.
Here are a few of the sketches I submitted for this assignment.
