I am so pleased and honored that this holiday illustration I created for The Newbury hotel in Boston has been accepted to Illustration West 60, the juried annual exhibition of the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles. It’s wonderful to be in a group with so many talented illustrators.
In contrast with last year’s holiday illustration, a view from the Boston Public Garden. (see here) director Carolyn Tiley asked for a more urban scene. I wanted this view of the main hotel entrance on Newbury Street to have a magical, snow globe feeling. It was cold sitting out there making the drawing on a windy November day, but a nights stay in the hotel’s comfortable and luxurious rooms warmed both my feet and my heart.
Thank you to this year’s jury, to Carolyn Tiley for the assignment, and to Robert Louey and Alison Chi for bringing me on as illustrator when they designed much of the hotel’s gorgeous remodel. Definitely check it out if you are in town.
